Dual plan questions and answers
What is a Dual Special Needs Plan (D-SNP)?
It is a type of Medicare Advantage plan for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid. It combines the two, is usually $0 a month, and often adds extras like a grocery and OTC card, dental, vision, and rides to the doctor, depending on the plan and where you live.
Do I really pay $0 a month?
Most dual plans have a $0 monthly premium, and your Medicaid often helps cover other costs. What you pay depends on the plan you choose and your situation, so a quick call is the best way to see your real numbers.
Is the grocery and flex card real?
Yes. Many dual plans include a monthly allowance on a card you can use for groceries, over the counter items, and sometimes other everyday needs. The amount is set by each plan, it is up to a set limit, and it is only for members who are eligible. It is a plan benefit, not free government money.
Do I keep my Medicaid if I join a dual plan?
Yes. A dual plan works together with your Medicaid, it does not replace it. You keep your Medicaid and the dual plan coordinates your Medicare benefits alongside it.
Can I keep my own doctor?
Often, yes. Dual plans use networks, so a licensed agent can check whether your doctors and pharmacy take a dual plan in your area before you make any change.
Is this Medicare or a government agency?
No. My Dual Plan is a private information and referral service. We are not Medicare, Medicaid, or any government agency, and we are not endorsed by one. When you call, you speak with a licensed insurance agent.
When can I join or switch?
People with Medicaid usually get extra chances to join, switch, or drop a dual plan during the year, on top of the yearly enrollment periods. A licensed agent can explain the timing that applies to you.
